The Bellevue hotel, standing between the Place des Palais and the Place Royale, was built in the late 18th century. It was erected on the ruins of an ancient castle of the Dukes of Brabant (11th century) that was used as a palace by the Dukes of Burgundy and then by Emperor Charles V and his successors.

The hotel has hosted many important visitors. It was used as a residence by Princess Clémentine and by the future King Leopold III shortly after his marriage to Princess Astrid. The current restoration highlights the decorative refinement of this monument steeped in history and offers the visitor an exceptional view of the Royal Palace and its gardens.

It was the home of the Museum of the Dynasty and the King Baudouin Memorial till 31 December 2004. In July 2005, the Bellevue will reopen with a brand new exhibition, dedicated to the History of Belgium and its Dynasty.
