Inaugurated on September 1, 1829, Botany then dominates a field of more than six hectares, arranged by the architect of Petersen gardens over the ground located between the door of Schaerbeek and the door of Cologne. Following the financial difficulties of the company founder, the State becomes purchaser of the places in 1870. Renamed the Botanical gardens of the State, they maintain their vocation of conservation, research and pedagogy. In 1935, great work of the junction North- Midday involves the inescapable removal of the Botanical gardens to the field of Bouchout.
